Get The Party Started With Southern Gas Services Helium Balloons & Accessories!!!

Southern Gas Services has a range of Balloon Gas and Compressed Air Cylinders, Balloons and Regulators available for hire that will suit any occasion, large or small.

Ever wondered how many cylinders you would get out of either a Helium or a Compressed Air gas cylinder? Well, look no further! Please note, the number of cylinders you can fill is determined on the circumference (size) and the material of the balloon you are filling. The most commonly used balloons are Latex and the figures for this type of balloon material is listed below.

Helium (balloon gas) and compressed air regulators are available for hire. A refundable deposit is required on order to secure the regulator.

Commonly asked questions regarding helium gas (balloon gas) and balloons.

Q1) How many Latex balloons can be filled?
A1) Please see above charts for approximate numbers. Please note, the amount of balloons you will be able to fill per cylinder is greatly dependant on the CIRCUMFERENCE (SIZE) of the balloon. Overfilling of balloons will affect these totals.

Q2) How long will the balloons last in the air?
A2) this will depend on the quality of the balloons that you are using. For example, the most readily available type of Helium Balloons is LATEX. Because Helium can permeate through the Latex over time, the Latex balloons on average will last approximately 12 hours.

If you use a more expensive FOIL Balloon, these are manufactured specifically to contain Helium for longer periods of time. For example, a standard Foil Balloon will last approximately 1 week fully inflated. Foil balloons also have a self sealing valve, which makes them more user friendly as you can inflate these several time during the course of the balloons life cycle.

Q3) How difficult is it to inflate Balloons?
A3) If you are unsure of how to fill the balloons, Please follow the directions below. A Southern Gas Services representative will also show you how to use the cylinder and regulator upon collection.

Balloon Gas

Q4) Is it safe to Inhale Helium (Balloon Gas)?
A4) The short answer is No. Although Helium is non toxic, non flammable gas, It is an asphyxiant. Evidence has proven that the inhalation of Helium gas from balloons as a party trick can be fatal yet many party goers think this is a funny experience rather than life threatening.

Helium gas can totally displace all available oxygen in your body within seconds. If a user continues to inhale Helium, Asphyxia will occur causing dizziness, unconsciousness and even death.

Q5) What should I do as a responsible host do if someone Inhales Helium (Balloon) Gas?
A5) If a person inhales Helium and suffers any symptoms of Asphyxia, (Breathing difficulty, Rapid pulse, Dizziness, redness of cheeks, fainting, nausea, headache, paralysis) please follow the following First Aid procedures:

  1. Immediately take victim outside to inhale fresh air.
  2. Apply artificial resuscitation if necessary
  3. Treat for shock if required.
  4. Call emergency services and advise on situation. You may need to quote the following information: Helium Gas UN#1946, Hazchem code 2(T)
